Nature of Costa Rica

Date taken: 10.11.2015Length: 01:21

The species richness of this small country is one of the largest in the world. With a land area of 51,100 square kilometres, Costa Rica is only slightly larger than Switzerland, but it contains five percent of the planet's entire flora and fauna. More than a quarter of the country is under nature conservation and Costa Rica is considered a pioneer in sustainable ecotourism. Diverse landscapes alternate: numerous national parks with rainforests and dry forests, dense mangrove swamps and mystical mountain cloud forests. Vast dream beaches on the Pacific coast or the Caribbean lowlands, where tropical rainforest meets unspoiled beaches
as well as a multitude of partly still active volcanoes.
